At the end of the 1930s, the capital had 3,000 streets, boulevards, by-streets, passage ways and 125,000 buildings. The area of the paved streets grew fast, the public transport too, developed: the last horse-driven street car was replaced by the electric one in 1929. In 1921 the Romanian Opera House was inaugurated, although standing operatic seasons existed since 1880. International air flights connected Bucharest to Belgrade, Istanbul, Budapest, Vienna, Prague and Paris. Regular radio broadcast started in 1928 and in 1933 the telephone company had a head office built - a sky-scrapper - in the Victoria Ave, with American capital and architects.
